Getting There

Public Transport

From Sydney, take a train to Woodford Station. The journey takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. From Woodford Station, head north on Woodford Avenue for about 1 kilometer until you reach the Mabel Falls Walking Track. The trailhead will be on your right. Expect a 28-minute walk from the station to the falls. Opal cards or contactless payments are accepted; fares range from $2.24 to $3.20 depending on the distance and time of day.
Car

From Katoomba, head east on the Great Western Highway (A32) for about 14 kilometers until you reach Woodford. Turn left onto Woodford Avenue and continue for about 1 kilometer. Look for signs directing you to Mabel Falls Walking Track. There is a small parking area at the trailhead. Parking is free, but it fills up quickly on weekends, so arrive early. Limited on-street parking is available on the highway verge and in Glen Street, with a 30-minute time limit.
Walking

From the end of Mount View Avenue, Woodford, follow the track/fire trail. At the T intersection under the power lines, turn left and head down the hill until you reach another fire trail. Turn right and follow this new fire trail downhill. After a few minutes, you will come to a couple of signs and the start of the actual walking track to the left. Follow the signs to Mabel Falls.

Mabel Falls, nestled in the Blue Mountains near Woodford, New South Wales, offers a tranquil retreat into nature. The Mabel Falls Walking Track provides an accessible path through lush landscapes, accompanied by the soothing sounds of cascading water. The falls are part of the Transit of Venus walking track, a roughly 3.5km circuit that also takes in Hazel and Edith Falls.The falls themselves spill into a large, sandy-bottomed pool, creating a scene reminiscent of a tropical island. Adventurous visitors can even walk behind the falls into a large, cool, and green overhang. The surrounding area is rich in native flora and fauna, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts and photographers.Historically, Mabel Falls was named after Angelina Mabel Fairfax, daughter of Alfred and Frances Fairfax, who owned Woodford House (later Woodford Academy) from 1867. In the late 1800s, students from Woodford Academy would run to the falls daily for a morning swim. The site also has remnants of a dam wall, built to create a larger bathing pool. While the waterfall is most impressive after rainfall, it provides a refreshing escape year-round.
