Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from Melbourne, take the M1 Freeway and follow the signs to the Mornington Peninsula. Exit at the Frankston Freeway (M11) towards Mornington. Continue on the M11 until you reach the point where it branches onto the Moorooduc Highway. Follow Moorooduc Highway, which becomes the Nepean Highway (State Route 1) towards Portsea. When you reach the town of Portsea, follow the signs to Point Nepean National Park. The final stretch will lead you to Defence Rd, where Fort Nepean is located. Parking is available at the park entrance, but there may be a small parking fee. Make sure to check the latest parking rates before you go.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Fort Nepean via public transport, take a train from Melbourne to Frankston Station on the Frankston Line. From Frankston Station, catch the 788 bus towards Portsea. The bus will take you to the Portsea village. Once you arrive at Portsea, you will need to walk approximately 2.5 kilometers to reach Fort Nepean. Follow the signs to Point Nepean National Park, and you will find the entrance to Fort Nepean along Defence Rd. Note that bus fares vary, so check the current fares on the Public Transport Victoria website. Additionally, prepare for the walk, as it may take around 30 minutes.

• Bicycle

  For the more adventurous, cycling to Fort Nepean is an option. If you are starting from Melbourne, take the train to Frankston and then cycle along the scenic coastal route via the Nepean Highway. The distance is roughly 26 kilometers from Frankston to Portsea. Once in Portsea, follow the signs to Point Nepean National Park. Ensure you wear a helmet and check local cycling regulations. There are bike racks available at the park entrance.
