Half Day Tour to Daintree Rainforest and Mossman Gorge

A great trip. Really enjoyed it.

We went on the half day experience which was conducted by our driver/guide, James, who was so knowledgeable and entertaing throughout the whole trip. We were picked up at the marina where our cruise ship tender dropped us and drove out from Port Douglas to a beach stop where we had coffee and pastries from the local bakers. We the drove to the Daintree River where we had a cruise on the river, spotting young crocodiles sun bathing and learning about the various trees and shrubs which bordered the river. When the river trip was finished, we then drove to Mossman Gorge visitor centre which is run by the local aboriginal tribe. James took us on a walk through the gorge and waterfalls, explaining so much about the flora and fauna. At the end of this part of the trip we were offered delicious chicken and salad rolls, again, from the local bakery. Then dropped off in Port Douglas at The Tin Shed, a community pub where we got ourselves a drink. A wonderful day out and Port Douglas is a lovely town. Back in plenty of time to get our tender back to the ship.

Great to see the animals, including the Joey. Indigenous presentation was very interesting. Walk in the rain forest was very cool and the croc boat ride was fun (and funny).

Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas

Wonderful Wildlife for the Family

In an effort to see more unique Australian wildlife, our family took an afternoon trip to the Wildlife Habitat in Port Douglas. We did not have a rental car, but were able to get there through the SR shuttle. I was pleasantly surprised at the wildlife that we saw there! We only had a couple hours at the end of the afternoon, so the staff provided us information on the sites that would be closing early. The staff also provided an informative pelican presentation and helped me to spot the kookaburra on site. We loved seeing the cassowaries, wallabies, kangaroo (which we happily fed), various birds, emu, crocodiles, and koalas. By the time that we visited, the snack bar was closed and vending machine wasn’t working, but the gift shop did have some drinks and ice cream available for sale. We bought a few souvenirs before heading out. It was a lovely experience for our whole family. Thank you!
