Discover more about Frog Hollow Park

Frog Hollow Park, nestled in the heart of Darwin City, offers a serene escape from the urban hustle. This picturesque park, located just off McMinn Street, is known for its vibrant greenery, well-maintained gardens, and inviting walking paths. The park's history is as rich as its foliage. Prior to 1952, the area was a natural drainage line, becoming a wet-season creek. In the early years of Commonwealth jurisdiction over the Northern Territory from 1911, it served as worker camps. These camps, however, were squalid, with basic shelters and poor sanitation. By 1936, private houses began to appear, but in 1938, the land was acquired for military use, including a large petrol tank. A fuel tank in Frog Hollow was destroyed during a bombing raid in 1942. Later, in 1952, Darwin Primary School was built on the site, operating until 1984. Today, Frog Hollow Park is valued by the Darwin community as natural parkland in the central city area. It's a popular spot for events and gatherings, offering ample shaded areas ideal for picnics and leisurely afternoons. The park also features a playground for children and space for gentle strolls. The park's mature trees, some dating back to the 1950s when the primary school was established, provide shade and contribute to the park's tranquil atmosphere. The buildings are now used for community arts. Frog Hollow Park is also known for its accessibility, catering to people with mobility aids, wheelchairs, and those with hearing or vision loss.
