Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from the nearest town in Far West, such as Broken Hill. Head northeast on the Silver City Highway (A32) until you reach the Barrier Highway (A32) and turn onto it. Continue driving until you reach the town of Wilcannia. From Wilcannia, take the Kidman Way (B87) heading southeast. Follow the signs until you reach the town of Cobar. From Cobar, continue on the Kidman Way until you get to Bourke. From Bourke, take the Mitchell Highway (A39) heading north until you reach Maleny. Finally, navigate to 563 Mountain View Rd, Maleny QLD 4552. McCarthy's Lookout is located a short drive from the main road, so keep an eye out for signage directing you to the lookout.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take a bus from Broken Hill to Cobar. From Cobar, you can catch a bus heading to Bourke. Once in Bourke, check for available bus services heading towards Maleny. Once you arrive in Maleny, you may need to use a taxi or rideshare service to reach 563 Mountain View Rd, where McCarthy's Lookout is located. Be sure to check the local bus schedules in advance, as services may be limited.

• Bicycle/Walking

  If you're feeling adventurous and are already in Maleny, you can bike or walk to McCarthy's Lookout from the town center. Start by heading west on Maple St, then turn onto Mountain View Rd. It's about a 4km ride or walk, and it offers beautiful scenery along the way. Ensure you have enough water and wear comfortable shoes if walking.
