Glow Worm Caves Tamborine Mountain
Experience the magic of glow worms in a sustainable environment at Tamborine Mountain's Cedar Creek Estate. A unique and educational adventure.
The Glow Worm Caves at Tamborine Mountain provide a fascinating glimpse into the lives of these bioluminescent creatures. Opened in 2005, the caves were created to protect the local Queensland glow worm species, Arachnocampa flava, whose populations were declining due to tourism and deforestation. The man-made cave mimics the glow worms' natural habitat, maintaining 95% humidity and complete darkness during the day. Visitors can observe the glow worms up close during guided tours, learning about their life cycle and why they emit light. The tours take place on a flat, accessible path, making it suitable for all ages and abilities. The cave's population has grown from an initial 300 to several thousand, thanks to ongoing conservation efforts. The estate also includes a reforested wildlife corridor, providing habitat for native Australian wildlife. Located on the grounds of Cedar Creek Estate Vineyard and Winery, visitors can combine their glow worm experience with wine tasting and dining. The winery offers a restaurant and cellar door, making it a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.
