The Tatura Irrigation and Wartime Camps Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of Tatura and the surrounding Goulburn Valley region. The museum's collection is based upon three main themes: the history of irrigation in the Goulburn Valley, the local and family history of Tatura and district since white settlement, and the history of the seven World War II Prisoner of War and Internment Camps and the Garrison and Hospital which were established in this area. The museum houses a unique collection of items from the seven WWII Prisoner of War and Internment Camps in the Tatura and Rushworth areas. The collection includes artifacts and memorabilia donated by former internees, POWs, their families, and members of the public. Some notable items include 54 works of art by Leonhard Adam, sketches by Georg Rosenkranz, and numerous handcrafted wooden items and clothing made and worn whilst interned. There are also children's toys, metal objects, musical instruments, theatre programs, and a collection of puppets. Explore the history of irrigation in the Goulburn Valley, with unique photographs of the construction of the Goulburn Weir, Waranga Basin, and the channel system. Delve into the local and family histories of Tatura and the district, with information on local identities, businesses, and industries. The museum also has a reference library for researchers. The museum is housed in the original four-roomed building from which the irrigation scheme for the Western Goulburn Valley was developed. The building was purchased and restored in 1988. Two brick extensions have since been added to house the Wartime Camps collection, a foyer, shop, lecture room, and art gallery.
