Streaky Bay Jetty: A Coastal Icon

The Wirangu people have been the traditional custodians of the land for thousands of years. Dutch explorer Pieter Nuyts first sighted the area in 1627, and Matthew Flinders later named Streaky Bay in 1802, noting the streaks in the water caused by seaweed and light reflection. Once known as Flinders, the town officially adopted the name Streaky Bay in 1940.
