Discover more about Little Blowhole

The Little Blowhole is a captivating natural attraction located off Tingira Crescent in Kiama, about two kilometers south of the main township. Unlike its larger counterpart, the Kiama Blowhole, the Little Blowhole is known for its consistent displays, making it a reliable spot to witness nature's power. The name 'Kiama' itself is translated to 'where the sea makes a noise'. Formed from basalt lava flows millions of years ago, the Little Blowhole demonstrates the erosive power of the ocean. As waves crash against the coast, water enters a narrow opening in the rocks, and pressure builds within an underground chamber. This pressure forces the water upwards through a small blowhole, creating a spray that can reach impressive heights. The best displays occur when the seas are from the northeast, with the spray reaching remarkable heights, viewable from a platform or the rocky foreshore. Local Aboriginals, the traditional custodians of the land, have known about this natural wonder for thousands of years. The Little Blowhole Community Landcare collaborates with local Aboriginal people to express respect for the Aboriginal Dreaming, and the beliefs about the connections between plants, animals, people and their relationship to land. Visitors can enjoy a picnic at the nearby Little Blowhole Reserve, also known as Endeavour Lookout. The area offers a family-friendly environment with lookouts and a small car park. From here, you can take the Kiama Coast Walk towards the main Blowhole, passing beaches and bays.
