Cape Banks Lighthouse, situated on a headland near Carpenter Rocks in South Australia, has been a beacon of maritime guidance since 1883. Originally constructed from local limestone, the lighthouse initially stood at 7.5 meters, utilizing a lantern from the old MacDonnell Lighthouse. The light characteristic was alternating revolving, showing one red and two white faces.
In May 1928, the lighthouse was upgraded, increasing its height to 15 meters. This upgrade also led to the automation of the light, and the keeper's cottages were subsequently demolished. The lighthouse is listed on the South Australian Heritage Register, recognizing its significance in the country's maritime history and its representation of advancements in lighthouse technology.
Today, visitors can explore the lighthouse grounds and enjoy panoramic views of the coastline. From Mount Gambier, drive southeast on the A1 highway. After approximately 30 kilometers, take the exit toward the B101 and continue for about 20 kilometers until you reach Carpenter Rocks. Follow the signs to Cape Banks Lighthouse, located on Cape Banks Lighthouse Road. Parking is available near the lighthouse. There are no parking fees.

Take a bus from Mount Gambier to Carpenter Rocks. Check local schedules for bus times, as services may be limited. From Carpenter Rocks, arrange a taxi or rideshare to reach the lighthouse, approximately 5 kilometers away. Taxi/rideshare fare is approximately $20-$30 AUD.
