Discover more about Upper Cascades

The Upper Cascades in Litchfield National Park offer a more secluded and tranquil experience compared to some of the park's more popular swimming spots. This natural wonderland features a series of cascading waterfalls flowing over rocky outcrops, creating shallow, clear pools ideal for a relaxing soak. Often referred to as a 'natural spa,' the pools offer a refreshing escape in the heart of the Australian bush. The journey to the Upper Cascades is part of the adventure. The 3.3km loop walk, graded as moderate to difficult, takes you through varied landscapes. The trail begins across flat, open ground before winding through a patch of monsoon rainforest and ascending to the Tabletop Plateau. Along the way, several lookout points provide sweeping views of the lowlands below. Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and bring water, as the terrain can be uneven and rocky, and parts of the walk are exposed to the sun. While the Lower Cascades are often closed during the wet season due to flooding, the Upper Cascades remain accessible year-round, offering a peaceful retreat whenever you choose to visit. Keep in mind that swimming may be temporarily restricted after heavy rainfall due to dangerous currents. With its combination of natural beauty and relative seclusion, the Upper Cascades provide a memorable Litchfield experience for those willing to take the path less traveled.
