Car
From the center of Mallee, take the Calder Freeway (M79) heading south towards Melbourne. Continue for approximately 75 kilometers until you reach the junction with the Eastern Freeway (M3). Merge onto the Eastern Freeway and continue for about 25 kilometers. Take the exit towards the Maroondah Highway (B300) and follow it for approximately 15 kilometers. Look for signs directing you to Mount Dandenong. Once you reach Mount Dandenong, turn onto Mount Dandenong Tourist Road. The sanctuary is located at 1402 Mount Dandenong Tourist Rd, Mount Dandenong VIC 3767. Parking is available on-site, but there may be a small fee.
Public Transportation
To reach William Ricketts Sanctuary via public transport, start by taking a bus from Mallee to Melbourne. Once in Melbourne, head to the Flinders Street Station and take the train to Upper Ferntree Gully Station on the Belgrave line. From Upper Ferntree Gully Station, you can catch a local bus (Route 688) that goes to Mount Dandenong. Disembark at the stop nearest to Mount Dandenong Tourist Road. From there, it's about a 15-minute walk to the sanctuary. Be sure to check the bus timetable for the latest schedule as services may vary, and bring some change, as there may be a small fare for the bus.
