Getting There

  • Driving

    The final approach to Cape York Tip involves driving along unpaved roads from Bamaga. From Bamaga, follow the signs towards Pajinka (The Tip). The drive is approximately 41km and can take around 45 minutes. Be prepared for corrugated roads and potential delays. Parking is available near the entrance to the site. Note: A vehicle ferry is required to cross the Jardine River to reach the Northern Peninsula Area; during peak season, significant delays are possible. Cost: Jardine River Ferry fees vary; check the NPA Regional Council website for current pricing. As of 2021, the ferry cost was $100, but this can change annually. A fee of $10 per person is required to access the area at the Jardine River.

    From the parking area at Pajinka, the northernmost tip is accessed via a short walking track. The walk is a few hundred meters over rocky terrain with some uneven surfaces. Reef shoes are recommended due to potentially muddy and slippery areas. Cost: None, beyond the access fee paid at the Jardine River.
