If you are starting from the town of Weipa, head south on the Peninsula Development Road (PDR) towards Bramwell Junction. Continue on the PDR until you reach the junction for the Bamaga Road. Turn left onto Bamaga Road and drive until you reach the ferry terminal for the ferry to York Island. The ferry operates regularly, but it is advisable to check the schedule in advance. The ferry ride takes approximately 30 minutes and costs around AUD 30 per vehicle and passengers. Make sure to arrive at the terminal at least 30 minutes before departure.

From Cairns, take a bus service to Weipa. Once in Weipa, you can either rent a car or take a local shuttle service to the Bamaga Road junction. From there, follow the same route to the ferry terminal as described above. The bus from Cairns to Weipa typically costs between AUD 60 to AUD 90 and takes around 12 hours, so plan accordingly. Ensure to check the bus schedule for your return trip as well.
