Car
If you're driving from the main area of Mount Kosciuszko, head southwest on Alpine Way towards Geehi. The drive will take approximately 30 minutes, covering about 25 kilometers. Keep an eye out for the signs for Carruthers Peak as you get closer. Once you reach the Geehi area, park at the Geehi Rest Area, which is a designated parking spot for hikers and visitors. Ensure your vehicle is parked properly as there may be rangers checking for compliance.
Public Transportation
To use public transport, take a bus from Jindabyne to Thredbo. Once you arrive at Thredbo, transfer to a local shuttle service that goes to the Geehi Rest Area. Note that the shuttle service may not run frequently, so check the schedule in advance. The bus journey from Jindabyne to Thredbo takes about 30 minutes, while the shuttle to the Geehi Rest Area will take another 10-15 minutes. Make sure to have some cash on hand, as the shuttle may not accept card payments.
Hiking
From the Geehi Rest Area, you will start your hike to Carruthers Peak. Follow the marked hiking trail that begins near the rest area. The hike to Carruthers Peak is approximately 5 kilometers one way and should take about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your pace. The trail is well-marked and offers stunning views of the surrounding area, so take your time and enjoy the scenery. Ensure you have appropriate hiking gear, water, and snacks for the journey.
