Car
If you're traveling by car, start your journey from Townsville, which is approximately 8 km from the ferry terminal to Magnetic Island. Drive to the Townsville Ferry Terminal located at 1/2 Flinders Street, Townsville City QLD 4810. The ferry ride to Magnetic Island takes about 20-30 minutes and costs approximately AUD 30-40 return per adult. Upon arriving at Magnetic Island, follow the main road to Horseshoe Bay, which is about a 15-minute drive from the ferry terminal. Look for signage directing you to the Forts Walk, which starts at the Forts Junction. There is ample parking available at Horseshoe Bay.
Public Transportation
For those using public transport, you can take a bus from Townsville to the Townsville Ferry Terminal. Buses run frequently and cost about AUD 4-7. Once at the ferry terminal, purchase your ferry ticket to Magnetic Island. After disembarking, you can catch a local bus service on Magnetic Island that will take you to Horseshoe Bay. The bus fare is approximately AUD 5-10. Get off at Horseshoe Bay and follow the signs to the Forts Walk, which begins at the Forts Junction.
Walking
If you prefer a more adventurous option after arriving on Magnetic Island, you can walk from Horseshoe Bay to the Forts Junction. It is a scenic 3 km hike that takes about 40-50 minutes. Follow the pathway signs that lead you through beautiful landscapes and past some stunning viewpoints. Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water, as there are limited facilities along the trail.
