Car
If you are traveling by car, start from Alice Springs, which is approximately 450 km from Karu Lookout. Take the Stuart Highway (A87) heading south and then turn onto the Lasseter Highway (A87) towards Uluru. Follow the signs to Kata Tjuta National Park. The parking area for the Valley of the Winds is located at the trailhead. The trip will take about 5 to 6 hours, so ensure you have enough fuel and supplies.
Public Transportation
For those relying on public transportation, you can catch a bus service from Alice Springs to Yulara, which is the closest town to Uluru. The journey takes around 5 hours. From Yulara, you can take a shuttle service that operates to Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Make sure to check the shuttle schedule in advance. Once at the Kata Tjuta National Park, you can access the Valley of the Winds trail where Karu Lookout is located.
Hiking
Once you arrive at the Valley of the Winds, you will need to hike approximately 7.4 km (4.6 miles) to reach the Karu Lookout. The hike is moderately challenging, so wear comfortable hiking shoes and carry plenty of water. The lookout provides stunning views of the unique rock formations of the area.
