Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from Alice Springs, take the Stuart Highway (National Route 87) heading south. Continue on the Stuart Highway for about 60 kilometers until you reach the turn-off for Namatjira Drive (also known as the West MacDonnell Ranges Road). Turn left onto Namatjira Drive and follow it for approximately 20 kilometers. Keep an eye out for the signs pointing to Ellery Creek Big Hole, which will be on your right. The road leading to the site is well-maintained, and there is a parking area available for visitors.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transport, you can take a bus service from Alice Springs to Glen Helen Lodge, which is the nearest stop to Ellery Creek Big Hole. The bus service operates several times a week, and it's best to check the current schedule in advance. Once you arrive at Glen Helen Lodge, you will need to arrange for a taxi or shuttle service to complete the final leg of your journey to Ellery Creek Big Hole, which is about 10 kilometers away. Be aware that taxi services may require advance booking.

• Walking

  If you are already at Glen Helen Lodge and prefer to walk, you can trek to Ellery Creek Big Hole. The walk is roughly 10 kilometers and may take about 2-3 hours one way. Ensure you have plenty of water, wear suitable hiking shoes, and be prepared for the Australian sun. Follow the Namatjira Drive heading south until you reach the Ellery Creek Big Hole entrance; the area is relatively flat and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscapes.
