To reach the Highest Road in Queensland, start your journey from Cairns. Head west on the Bruce Highway (A1) towards Mareeba. After approximately 60 kilometers, take the exit onto the Kennedy Highway (National Route 1) towards Atherton. Continue on this highway for about 37 kilometers, until you reach the town of Atherton. From Atherton, follow the signs to the Tablelands and take the Gillies Highway (State Route 25) towards Gordonvale. After about 20 kilometers, you will reach Tumoulin Road in Evelyn. Turn onto Tumoulin Road, and follow it until you reach the highest point. This entire journey is approximately 120 kilometers and can take around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic conditions.

From Cairns, you can take a bus operated by Sunbus to Atherton. The journey takes about 1.5 hours. Once you arrive in Atherton, you will need to hire a taxi or use a rideshare service to reach Tumoulin Road in Evelyn. It is around a 20-minute ride from Atherton to Tumoulin Road. Ensure to coordinate your bus and taxi schedules accordingly.
