Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are starting from Cairns, take the Captain Cook Highway (A1) south for about 30 kilometers. After passing through Gordonvale, take the exit for the Gillies Highway (State Route 25) towards Atherton. Follow the Gillies Highway for approximately 20 kilometers until you reach the turn-off for Josephine Falls. Turn left onto Josephine Falls Road and continue for about 2 kilometers until you arrive at the parking area. Note: Parking is free.
Public Transportation
From Cairns, take a bus service to Gordonvale. Once in Gordonvale, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to take you to Josephine Falls, as there are no direct public transport options to the falls. The taxi ride from Gordonvale to Josephine Falls will take approximately 15-20 minutes. It's advisable to book your taxi in advance, and fares may vary, so check with the provider.
Walking
Once you have parked your car at the Josephine Falls parking area, you will need to walk a short distance to reach the falls. Follow the clearly marked walking track from the parking lot that leads you through the rainforest to the base of the falls. The walk is approximately 1.5 kilometers one way and is suitable for most fitness levels. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water, especially on warm days.
