Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from Darwin, head south on the Stuart Highway (National Route 1). After about 5 hours, take the exit for Katherine and continue on the Victoria Highway. After approximately 2.5 hours, follow the signs to Ballarat via the Western Highway (M8). Once you reach Ballarat, follow the signs for Sovereign Hill, which is located at Bradshaw St, Golden Point VIC 3350. There is ample parking available on-site.

• Public Transportation

  To visit Sovereign Hill via public transport from Darwin, take a flight to Melbourne Tullamarine Airport. From the airport, take the SkyBus to Southern Cross Station in Melbourne. From Southern Cross, catch a V/Line train to Ballarat (approximately 1.5 hours). Once in Ballarat, you can take a local bus or taxi to Sovereign Hill, which is about 3.5 km from the train station. Be sure to check the bus schedules in advance.

• Taxi/Rideshare

  If you prefer a taxi or rideshare service after arriving in Ballarat by train, you can easily book a ride to Sovereign Hill. The fare will typically be around $10-$15 AUD, depending on traffic and exact pickup location. This can be a convenient option if you are traveling with luggage or prefer a direct route.

• Walking (from local accommodation)

  If you are staying in a hotel or accommodation near the Ballarat city center, Sovereign Hill is approximately 3.5 km away. You can walk there in about 45 minutes. Just head south on Lydiard St, then turn left onto Bradshaw St, which will lead you directly to Sovereign Hill. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as some paths may be unpaved.
