If you're driving from Darwin, head south on the Stuart Highway (National Route 1) for about 90 kilometers. Look for the turn-off to Litchfield National Park, which you will take onto Litchfield Park Road. Continue following the signs for Litchfield National Park. After approximately 20 kilometers, you'll reach the entrance to the park, which is unstaffed and free of charge. Once inside the park, follow the signs to Upper Cascades, which is about a 5-kilometer drive along a dirt road. Note that a 4WD vehicle is recommended for this section of the road, especially during the wet season.
Public Transportation
To reach Upper Cascades using public transport, start by taking a bus from Darwin to Batchelor. Buses run several times a week and the journey takes about 1.5 hours. Once in Batchelor, you will need to arrange for a taxi or a shuttle service to get to Litchfield National Park. This part of the trip may incur additional costs for the taxi, typically ranging from AUD 50 to AUD 80. Once you arrive at the park, follow the signs to Upper Cascades, which is a short drive within the park. Be aware that public transport options can be limited, so checking schedules in advance is advisable.
