Car
If you're driving, head towards Buninyong, which is approximately 15 km southeast of Ballarat. From Ballarat, take the Midland Highway (A300) and turn onto the Buninyong Road (C149). Continue on Buninyong Road until you reach the town of Buninyong. Once in Buninyong, follow the signs to Mt Buninyong State Park, which is located just a few minutes drive from the town center. There is parking available near the entrance to the park.
Public Transportation
For those using public transport, you can take a train from Melbourne to Ballarat. The train departs from Southern Cross Station and takes approximately 1.5 hours. Once you arrive in Ballarat, you will need to catch a local bus or a taxi to Buninyong. The bus service can be limited, so check the local timetable for the most suitable option. The bus will drop you off in the center of Buninyong, from which it’s a short walk to the entrance of Mt Buninyong State Park. Ensure to plan ahead as bus schedules may vary.
Bike
For the adventurous, cycling is an option from nearby towns. If you are in Ballarat, it’s about a 15 km ride to Buninyong. Follow the Midland Highway and then turn onto Buninyong Road. The route is mostly flat but be cautious of traffic. Once you reach Buninyong, you can continue onto the bike paths that lead to Mt Buninyong. Remember to wear a helmet and bring water, as the ride can be taxing.
