Car
If you're traveling by car within the Whitsunday Islands, you'll first need to drive to Airlie Beach, the main gateway to the islands. From Airlie Beach, head to the Shute Harbour Road and follow the signs to Shute Harbour. It’s approximately a 10-minute drive (about 6 kilometers). Once you reach Shute Harbour, you will need to park your car in the designated parking area, which may incur a parking fee, typically around AUD 10 per day.
Ferry
From Shute Harbour, you can catch a ferry to Hook Island. Various ferry services operate this route, such as Cruise Whitsundays. The ferry ride takes about 30 minutes to reach Hook Island. Make sure to check the ferry schedule in advance as it may vary depending on the season. The cost for the ferry ride is usually around AUD 60 return per adult. Keep your ticket safe, as you'll need it for the return trip.
Public Transport
If you are using public transportation, you can take a bus from Proserpine to Airlie Beach. The bus service is provided by Whitsunday Transit and typically runs several times a day. The bus fare to Airlie Beach is approximately AUD 15. Once in Airlie Beach, follow the same instructions as above to reach Shute Harbour and then take the ferry to Hook Island.
