The Landstand, representing the nobility and high clergy, commissioned it as part of Klagenfurt's expansion and fortification. The building's design reflects the architectural trends of the Renaissance, with influences from Italian master builders. Architect Hans Freymann initiated the project in 1574, envisioning a horseshoe-shaped structure with two towers. Giovanni Antonio Verda from Gandria, Lugano, continued the work, completing it in 1587.The Landhaus's exterior showcases a double loggia wing, adorned with giant pilasters and stucco-decorated window frames. The inner courtyard is a serene space, leading to the Wappensaal, or Hall of Arms, the building's most celebrated interior space. The Wappensaal features 665 coats of arms representing Carinthian noble families. The ceiling features a baroque fresco by Josef Ferdinand Fromiller, completed between 1740 and 1760, depicting the hereditary homage of Emperor Charles VI in 1728.
