Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from the center of Flachgau and head towards Salzburg on the A1 motorway. Take the exit for Salzburg and follow signs for the center (Stadtzentrum). Once you reach the city, navigate to the area near the Mirabell Palace. From there, look for signs directing you to the Hettwer Bastei (Lodronsche Wehranlage) located at 5020 Salzburg. There is parking available near the observation deck, but make sure to check for any parking fees, which typically range from €1 to €2 per hour.

  For those using public transportation, you can take the bus from various locations in Flachgau to Salzburg. Look for bus lines that go to the Salzburg Hbf (main train station). From Salzburg Hbf, you can take tram line 1 or 3 towards the city center. Get off at the 'Südtiroler Platz' stop. From there, it is a 15-minute walk. Head north on Südtiroler Platz, then turn left onto Mirabellplatz, and continue straight until you reach the entrance to the Hettwer Bastei (Lodronsche Wehranlage).   If you're already in the vicinity of the Mirabell Palace, you can easily walk to the Hettwer Bastei. Start from the Mirabell Palace and walk towards the bridge over the Salzach River. Cross the bridge, and once on the other side, follow the pathway that leads up the hill towards the observation deck. The walk should take about 20 minutes and offers scenic views along the way. There are no additional costs for walking.
