Car
If you are traveling by car, head towards Johnsbach, which is the nearest village to Wackelzipf. From the center of Johnsbach, follow the signs for 'Nationalpark' and continue along the road. After approximately 4 kilometers, you will reach the parking area near the trailhead. Please note that parking may incur a small fee, typically around €5 for the day. From the parking area, follow the marked hiking trail leading to Wackelzipf, which will take about 1.5 to 2 hours of hiking.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a train to the nearest train station, which is in the town of Admont. From Admont, you can catch a local bus to Johnsbach. The bus ride takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive in Johnsbach, follow the signs for 'Nationalpark' to reach the parking area. If you prefer hiking directly, you can also inquire about taxi services that can take you closer to the trailhead. Please check the local bus schedules ahead of time, as they may vary, especially on weekends.
Hiking
If you are already in Gesäuse National Park and prefer to hike, you can access Wackelzipf from various trails within the park. Look for the trail markers that direct you towards Wackelzipf from popular starting points like the Enns Valley. Make sure to bring a detailed map or use a GPS device, as the trails can be steep and challenging. The hike can take approximately 2 to 3 hours depending on your starting point and pace.
