Seekarsee: A Serene Hiking Paradise in Austria

Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from the center of Gesäuse National Park. Take the B146 road towards Johnsbach. The journey will take approximately 30 minutes. Once you reach Johnsbach, look for signs directing you to Seekarsee, which is located a few kilometers further up. There is a small parking area near the lake where you can leave your car, but be mindful of parking regulations.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take a train to the nearest station, which is in the town of Admont. From Admont, you can catch a bus (Bus Line 911) that heads towards Johnsbach. Upon arriving in Johnsbach, you will need to hike approximately 2 kilometers to reach Seekarsee. The trail is marked and should take around 30 minutes to walk. Make sure to check the bus schedules in advance as they may vary.

• Hiking

  If you're already in the vicinity of Seekarsee and prefer to hike, you can access several trails leading to the lake. The most common starting point is the parking lot near the Johnsbach trailhead. From there, follow the well-marked hiking paths that lead directly to Seekarsee. The hike is moderately challenging and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
