Car
If you are driving, head towards Fusch an der Großglocknerstraße via the B168 road. From the village of Fusch, take the road signposted for Grossglockner Hochalpenstraße. Continue on this road until you reach the entrance of the Grossglockner Hochalpenstraße. Please note, there is a toll fee of approximately €37 for a car for a day pass (prices may vary based on the season). After paying the toll, proceed along the scenic road until you reach the parking area near the Franz-Josefs-Höhe viewpoint. From there, you can park your car and start hiking towards Hörndlscharte.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a train to Fusch an der Großglocknerstraße. From there, catch a local bus that travels towards the Grossglockner Hochalpenstraße. Ensure to check the local bus schedule as it may vary based on the season. Once you arrive at the Grossglockner Hochalpenstraße entrance, there is usually a stop where you can disembark. Similar to driving, this route also requires a toll fee of around €37 for the Hochalpenstraße access. After getting off the bus, you will need to walk to the parking area near Franz-Josefs-Höhe and then hike towards Hörndlscharte.
Hiking
Once you have parked your car or arrived by bus at the Franz-Josefs-Höhe viewpoint, prepare for a hike to Hörndlscharte. The trail is well-marked and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The hike to Hörndlscharte is moderate and will take approximately 2 to 3 hours one way. Make sure to wear suitable hiking boots and bring water and snacks for the journey. Follow the signs towards Hörndlscharte, and enjoy the breathtaking landscapes along the way.
