Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the main road in Grossglockner, specifically from the B107 road. Follow the signs towards the Grossglockner High Alpine Road (Großglockner Hochalpenstraße) and pay the toll fee at the entrance (approximately €38 per car). Continue driving on the High Alpine Road. You will reach the parking area at the Franz-Josefs-Höhe viewpoint, which is a popular spot for tourists. From this parking area, you will see signs for various hiking trails. Look for the trail leading to Glorer Hütte, which is marked and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to hike. The trail is well-maintained but can be steep in places, so wear appropriate hiking boots.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, take a train to the nearest major station, which is in Zell am See. From Zell am See, take a bus to the Grossglockner area. The bus route is operated by PostBus and will take you to the parking area at Franz-Josefs-Höhe. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance as it may vary by season. Once you arrive at Franz-Josefs-Höhe, follow the same hiking trail towards Glorer Hütte. The hike will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. The bus fare is approximately €20 one way.
Hiking
From the Franz-Josefs-Höhe parking area, begin your hike to Glorer Hütte by following the well-marked trail. The path is scenic, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. Keep an eye out for trail markers to ensure you stay on the right path. The trail is approximately 4 kilometers long and ascends steadily.
