Car
If you are traveling by car, start by heading towards the Grossglockner High Alpine Road (Grossglockner Hochalpenstraße) from your location in Grossglockner. The road entrance is located at the Fuscher Törl (approximately 15 km from the town of Heiligenblut). You will need to pay a toll to enter the road, which is around €38 for a standard car (as of 2023). After entering the road, follow the signs towards the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe. Continue along the road until you reach the parking area at the end of the road, which is the starting point for the hike to Stüdlhütte. The hike will take approximately 2-3 hours depending on your pace.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, take a bus from your location in Grossglockner to Heiligenblut. From Heiligenblut, there are local busses that run to the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. You can take the bus to the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe stop. Please check the local bus schedules ahead of time to ensure availability, as they may vary by season. The bus fare from Heiligenblut to the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe is approximately €10. Once you arrive at the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe, you can begin your hike to Stüdlhütte, which will take around 2-3 hours.
Hiking
Once you reach the parking area or Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe, the trail to Stüdlhütte is well-marked. Follow the signs indicating 'Stüdlhütte' and begin your hike. The route is scenic, offering views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers. Be prepared for a moderate hike; wear appropriate footwear and bring water and snacks. The trail is approximately 6 km long with an elevation gain of around 600 meters, taking about 2-3 hours to reach the hut.
