Walking
From the center of Hallstatt, head towards the Hallstatt train station. As you exit the train station, look for the signs directing you towards the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car station. Follow the signs down the path until you reach the cable car station. Purchase a ticket for the Dachstein cable car and take it up to the Dachstein mountain area. Once you disembark, follow the signs to the Dachstein Rieseneishöhle (Dachstein Ice Cave). The walk from the cable car station to the entrance of the Ice Cave is well-marked and will take approximately 30 minutes. Ensure to check the opening hours of the cave before you go.

From Hallstatt, walk to the Hallstatt train station. Board the train towards Obertraun. The journey takes about 10 minutes. Once you arrive at Obertraun station, exit the train and look for the bus stop outside the station. Take the bus that goes to the Dachstein cable car station (check the local bus schedule for times). Upon arrival at the cable car station, purchase a ticket for the Dachstein cable car and ride to the upper station. From there, follow the signs to the Dachstein Rieseneishöhle, which is about a 30-minute walk from the cable car station.
