Getting There

• Walking

  From the center of Hallstatt, make your way towards the Hallstatt train station. Exit the village by following the signs towards Obertraun. After approximately 20 minutes of walking along the lakeside path, you will reach the ferry terminal at the Hallstatt lake. Take the ferry to Obertraun; it takes about 10 minutes and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Once you arrive at the Obertraun ferry terminal, walk straight ahead and follow the road signs to Dachsteinhöhlen. The caves are about a 30-minute walk from the terminal. You'll pass through Obertraun village, and the path is well-marked with signs directing you towards the caves.

• Public Transport

  From Hallstatt, walk to the Hallstatt train station. Board a train heading towards Obertraun. The journey is very short, around 5 minutes. After arriving at the Obertraun train station, exit and follow the signs to Dachsteinhöhlen. It will take approximately 30 minutes to walk to the caves from the station. The route is straightforward, with clear signs along the way.

• Bicycle Rental

  If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle from one of the rental shops in Hallstatt. Start by heading towards the Hallstatt train station, then follow the bike path towards Obertraun. The bike ride takes about 15 minutes. Once you reach Obertraun, follow the signs directing you to Dachsteinhöhlen. The distance from Obertraun to the caves is around 2.5 km, and it should take approximately 10 minutes to cycle there. The route is scenic and offers beautiful views of the mountains.
