Walking
From the center of Hallstatt, start at the market square (Marktplatz). Head southwest towards the lakefront, following the path along the water. Continue walking along the lakeside promenade for about 15-20 minutes until you reach the ferry terminal. From there, take the ferry across to the town of Werfen. Once you arrive at Werfen, follow the signs to 'The Sound of Music Trail'. It is approximately a 10-minute walk from the ferry terminal to the trailhead.

From Hallstatt, walk to the local bus stop located near the market square. Board the bus that goes to the train station in Bad Ischl. From Bad Ischl, transfer to a train heading towards Werfen. The train journey takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Werfen station, walk towards the town center, following signs to 'The Sound of Music Trail'. It's about a 15-minute walk from the train station to the trailhead.
