Walking
Start at the center of Hallstatt, near the Market Square (Marktplatz). Head towards the northern end of the square, where you'll find a small path leading up towards the hillside. Follow the path, which will take you through beautiful wooded areas and offer stunning views of Hallstatt and the surrounding mountains. Continue along this path until you reach a sign indicating 'Waldbach Ursprung.' This should take about 30-40 minutes depending on your pace. The area is marked by a scenic wildlife refuge, so keep an eye out for signs along the way.
Walking
Alternatively, you can take a slightly longer route by heading out of Hallstatt towards the Waldbach area. From the Market Square, walk towards the lake and follow the path along the edge of the water. After about 15 minutes, you will see a trail leading up into the woods. Follow this trail as it climbs gently up the hillside. This route may take around 45 minutes, but it offers lovely views of the lake and the village as you ascend.
