Getting There

Walking
If you are starting from the Hallstatt Market Square (Marktplatz), head east towards the church (Evangelische Kirche) which is clearly visible. Once you reach the church, walk around it to the left, following the path that goes uphill. Continue along this path until you reach the cemetery (Friedhof) which is located adjacent to the church. The Hallstatt Charnel House (Beinhaus) is located within the cemetery. Look for the building with the decorative skulls and bones displayed on the exterior walls.

If you are near the Hallstatt Museum, exit the museum and head down towards the lake. Turn left and walk along the waterfront. Continue walking until you reach the small bridge leading to the cemetery entrance. Enter the cemetery and follow the path directly to the Hallstatt Charnel House, which is impossible to miss as it is situated within the cemetery grounds.

From the funicular station (if you have taken the funicular), walk down the path towards the village. As you descend, you will come across the cemetery on your right side before reaching the main part of Hallstatt. Enter the cemetery, and the Hallstatt Charnel House will be located in this area. Look for the distinct building with the decorative skulls.
