Getting there

Walking

Start at the main square of Hallstatt. Head towards the lakefront and follow the path along the shoreline. Continue walking until you reach the Hallstatt train station, which is about a 10-15 minute walk. From the train station, take the local bus towards Obertraun. The bus ride will take approximately 10 minutes. Get off at the stop 'Obertraun, Winkl.' From the bus stop, walk about 300 meters along Winkl street until you reach Mammut Cave, which will be on your right. The total travel time is about 30-40 minutes, depending on bus schedules.

Bicycle

If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle in Hallstatt. Start from the main square and cycle along the lakeside road towards Obertraun. Follow the signs for the cycling path to Obertraun. The distance is around 5 kilometers and takes about 20-30 minutes, depending on your cycling speed. Once in Obertraun, continue to Winkl street and look for Mammut Cave on your right.

Public Transport

From Hallstatt, walk to the Hallstatt train station, which is about a 10-15 minute walk from the main square. Take the local bus directed towards Obertraun. The bus journey takes about 10 minutes. Alight at 'Obertraun, Winkl' stop. Walk approximately 300 meters along Winkl street to reach Mammut Cave on your right. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance for return trips.
