From the center of Hallstatt, head towards the waterfront along the main promenade. Keep the lake on your left and enjoy the scenic views. Continue walking until you reach the end of the promenade where it meets the path leading up into the hills. This path is well-marked and has signs indicating the direction to Plassen. Follow this path as it winds upwards through the forest. After approximately 30 minutes of walking, you will reach a viewpoint that offers stunning views of Hallstatt and the surrounding mountains. Plassen is located further up from this viewpoint, so continue on the path for another 15 minutes until you reach the summit of Plassen.
Hiking
If you're starting from the Hallstatt train station, exit the station and walk towards the center of the town. Follow the same route as described above, which takes you along the waterfront. Once you reach the path leading up into the hills, take the same route as before. The hike to Plassen is moderately challenging, so be prepared with proper footwear and water. The entire hike from the train station to the top of Plassen will take about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Make sure to take breaks to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way.
