Car
If you're driving from the center of Hochkönig, head east on B164 towards St. Johann im Pongau. After approximately 15 km, you'll reach St. Johann. Look for the signs directing you to Gernkogel and follow the signs for the Gernkogel lift. Park at the designated parking area near the lift station, which may require a small parking fee (around €4 for half a day). From the lift station, take the Gernkogel cable car up to the summit.
Public Transportation
To reach Aussichtsturm Gernkogel using public transport, take a bus from Hochkönig to St. Johann im Pongau. The bus will take you to the main bus station in St. Johann. From there, you can either take a local taxi to the Gernkogel lift station or check for seasonal shuttle services that may operate during summer months. Once at the lift station, purchase a ticket for the Gernkogel cable car, which takes you directly to the viewpoint.
Hiking
For adventurous travelers, you can hike to Aussichtsturm Gernkogel. From the Gernkogel lift station, there's a well-marked trail leading to the tower. The hike is moderate and takes about 30-45 minutes, depending on your pace. Ensure you wear proper hiking shoes and carry water. You can also access the trail from various points in the Hochkönig area, but the lift is the easiest starting point.
