Car
If you are driving, start by heading towards the village of Heiligenblut. From the center of Heiligenblut, follow the signs to the Großglockner High Alpine Road (Großglockner Hochalpenstraße). The road is a toll road, and the fee is approximately €38 for a car. Continue on this scenic route, which is open from early May to late October, depending on weather conditions. After about 14 kilometers, you will reach the Pasterze Glacier parking area. From there, you will need to walk approximately 30 minutes to reach the Gletscher Pasterze itself.
Public Transportation
If you prefer to use public transportation, you can take a bus from the nearest major city, such as Salzburg or Innsbruck, to Heiligenblut. The bus service typically requires a transfer in Lienz or another nearby town. Once in Heiligenblut, you can take a local bus that operates during the summer months to the entrance of the Großglockner High Alpine Road. Be mindful of the bus schedule, as service may be limited. The local bus fare is about €6 one way. From the bus stop, the Gletscher Pasterze is a 30-minute walk.
Taxi or Ride-Sharing
For a more comfortable option, you can hire a taxi or use a ride-sharing service from Heiligenblut to the Pasterze Glacier parking area. This option may cost between €20 to €40, depending on your exact pickup location and the number of passengers.
