Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the nearest major town, Fusch an der Großglocknerstraße. Head south on the B165 road. Follow the signs for Großglockner Hochalpenstraße, which is the scenic mountain road. After approximately 7 km, look for a turnoff for Unnamed Road. This road will lead you to Hörndlscharte. Please note that there may be a toll fee for using the Großglockner Hochalpenstraße, typically around €35 for a car.
Public Transportation
To reach Hörndlscharte using public transport, take a train to the nearest station, which is in Fusch an der Großglocknerstraße. From there, catch a local bus that goes towards the Großglockner Hochalpenstraße. Be sure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they can vary seasonally. Once you reach the appropriate stop near the Unnamed Road, you may have to walk approximately 1.5 km to reach Hörndlscharte. The total cost for the bus ride should be around €5-€10.
Hiking
For the adventurous, you can also hike to Hörndlscharte. Starting from the parking area at the Großglockner Hochalpenstraße, follow the marked hiking trails leading up to Hörndlscharte. The hike will take around 2-3 hours depending on your fitness level. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking gear and bring water and snacks. There are no additional costs for hiking, but ensure you are prepared for changing weather conditions.
