Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the town of Heiligenblut. Head south on B107 (Grossglocknerstrasse) for approximately 8 kilometers. You will reach the parking area near the Pasterze Glacier. Note that there may be a toll fee for using the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, which is approximately €37 for a standard car. From the parking area, follow the well-marked hiking trail towards the glacier, which is about a 30-minute walk.
Public Transportation
To reach Pasterze using public transportation, take a train to the nearest station, which is in Heiligenblut. From Heiligenblut, you can take a bus that travels along the Grossglocknerstrasse towards the Pasterze parking area. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance, as services may vary by season. After getting off at the designated stop, follow the trail towards the glacier, which is a short walk away.
Hiking
For those who are already in the vicinity and prefer hiking, you can access Pasterze from several trails in the area. Ensure you have a good map or GPS device. The most common starting point is from the Pasterze parking area, where a clearly marked trail leads directly to the glacier. The hike is moderate and will take approximately 30 minutes. Ensure you wear suitable hiking gear and carry enough water.
