If you are traveling by car, start your journey from any point in Hohe Tauern. Head towards the B108 road (Felbertauernstraße) and follow the signs for Matrei in Osttirol. Once you reach Matrei, continue to follow signs towards the Höhenweg. After approximately 10 minutes, you will find the entrance to Speicher Margaritzen on your left. There is a parking area available near the dam, but be prepared for a small parking fee of about €5.

For those using public transportation, take a bus from the nearest town in Hohe Tauern (such as Matrei in Osttirol) to Speicher Margaritzen. Buses operated by PostBus run regularly and provide a scenic route to the dam. Check the schedule ahead of time, as the frequency may vary. Upon arrival at the nearest bus stop, a short walk of about 15 minutes will take you to the dam entrance. Note that the bus fare is approximately €4-€6 one way.

Walking from Matrei
If you prefer a more active approach, you can walk from Matrei in Osttirol to Speicher Margaritzen. This scenic route takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Starting from the town center, head northwest on the main road towards the dam. Follow the signs for Höhenweg, and enjoy the beautiful landscapes along the way. Ensure you wear comfortable shoes and bring water, especially during warmer months.
