Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Innsbruck. Take the A12 motorway heading east and exit at 'Zirl'. From there, follow signs to the Karwendel Mountains. Drive through the village of Pertisau and park at the parking lot near the Achensee lake. From the parking area, you may need to pay a small fee (around €5 for the day). The drive takes about 35-40 minutes.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take the train from Innsbruck to Jenbach. Once in Jenbach, transfer to the Achensee steam cog railway (Achenseebahn) which takes you to the Achensee. After arriving at the Achensee, you will need to walk to the Pertisau area. Be sure to check the train and cog railway schedules in advance, as there may be limited services. The total journey may take around 1.5 to 2 hours, and you should have a ticket for the cog railway (approximately €9 one way).
Hiking
From Pertisau, begin your hike towards Gamsjoch. Follow the marked hiking trails, starting at the tourist information center. The hike to Gamsjoch is approximately 6-8 kilometers and can take around 2-3 hours, depending on your pace. The trail is well-marked and offers beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Make sure to wear sturdy hiking boots and carry enough water and snacks for the journey.
