Getting There

  • Car

    From Karwendel, head southwest on the B2 road towards Ettal. Follow the B2 for approximately 30 kilometers. You will pass through scenic alpine landscapes. Continue until you reach the town of Ettal. The abbey is located at Kaiser-Ludwig-Platz 1, and there is parking available near the abbey for a fee of around €2.00 per hour.

  • Public Transportation

    Take a regional train from any nearby station in Karwendel to Oberammergau. The train journey takes about 20 minutes. Once you arrive at Oberammergau, transfer to bus line 9626 towards Ettal. The bus ride will take around 10 minutes. Get off at the stop 'Ettal, Kloster' which is right next to Ettal Abbey. The total cost for the train and bus ticket is approximately €5.50.

  • Walking from Ettal Town Center

    If you are already in the town of Ettal, simply walk to the abbey. From the town square, head north for about 500 meters. Follow the signs directing you to 'Kloster Ettal.' The walk should take around 10 minutes, and you will see the impressive abbey as you approach.
