Car
If you are driving, start from the nearest major town, Innsbruck. Take the A12 motorway toward Kufstein. After approximately 30 km, take the exit for Schwaz and follow the B171 road towards Pertisau. From there, follow the signs for Karwendel, which will lead you into the mountains. You will eventually reach the parking area at the base of Karwendeltal. Note that parking may incur a fee, typically around €5 for the day.
Public Transportation
To reach Karwendeltal via public transport, start by taking a train from Innsbruck to Jenbach. The train ride takes about 45 minutes. Upon arriving at Jenbach, transfer to the Achensee Bahn, a scenic cogwheel train that will take you to the town of Pertisau. From Pertisau, you can catch a local bus (Bus Line 35) that goes directly to the starting point of Karwendeltal. Ensure to check the bus schedule in advance, as services may be limited, especially during off-peak seasons.
Hiking
If you are already in the vicinity and prefer a hiking option, you can start your trek from Pertisau. The hike to Karwendeltal is well-marked and takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Follow the signs towards the 'Karwendeltal' trailhead, which will guide you through beautiful alpine meadows and forests. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and bring water, as this is a moderately challenging hike.
