If you're traveling by car, start by heading to the town of Tamsweg, the capital of Lungau. From Tamsweg, take the B96 road towards Mauterndorf. After roughly 10 minutes, turn right onto the L219 road, which will take you towards the Tappenkarsee. Follow this road for about 15 km until you reach the parking area near Tappenkarsee. Note that there may be a small parking fee, which typically costs around €5. From the parking area, it's a short hike to the Tappenkar-Wasserfall, which is well marked.

Public Transportation
If you prefer to use public transportation, start by taking a bus from Tamsweg to Mauterndorf. Buses run frequently and the journey takes about 15-20 minutes. Upon arriving in Mauterndorf, you will need to transfer to a regional bus that operates to the Tappenkarsee area. Ensure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they can vary depending on the season. The bus will drop you off at a stop near Tappenkarsee. From there, a short hike will lead you to the Tappenkar-Wasserfall. Be aware that the bus service may have a fare of around €3-€5 for the trip.

For the more adventurous travelers, consider hiking from the parking area of Tappenkarsee to Tappenkar-Wasserfall. The hike is approximately 1.5 km and takes about 30-45 minutes.
