Getting There

• Car

  From Millstätter See, take the B98 road heading south towards Spittal an der Drau. Continue on B98 for about 10 kilometers until you reach the intersection with the L14 road. Turn left onto L14 (also known as the Gassenstraße) and follow it for approximately 5 kilometers. You will see signs for Hochpalfennock. Continue straight until you reach the parking area near the trailhead. Keep in mind that parking may incur a small fee, typically around €5 for the day.

• Public Transportation

  Start your journey at the nearest bus stop in Millstätter See. Take bus line 511 heading towards Spittal an der Drau. After about 15-20 minutes, get off at the 'Möllbrücke' stop. From here, transfer to bus line 512, which goes towards 'Hochpalfennock.' This bus runs less frequently, so check the schedule ahead of time. Once you arrive at the 'Hochpalfennock' stop, you will need to walk approximately 1 kilometer to reach the viewing area. Be sure to have some change ready for bus fares, which typically cost around €2-4 per ride.

• Walking

  If you are feeling adventurous and are already in the vicinity, you can also hike to Hochpalfennock. Starting from the center of Millstätter See, head towards the lake and take the trail that leads into the hills. The hike is roughly 4 kilometers and can take around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your pace. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and bring water. The trail is well-marked, and you will be rewarded with beautiful views of the lake as you ascend.
