Dorfmuseum Mönchhof, located in the Seewinkel region of Burgenland, is an immersive open-air museum that vividly recreates rural life in the Heideboden (heathland) from around 1890 to the 1960s. The museum, the result of a private collection expanded over the years, features approximately 35 reconstructed buildings, offering visitors a unique glimpse into the past. The museum is divided into three thematic areas. The first area showcases the fundamentals of existence, highlighting agriculture from grain to beet farming. The second focuses on food preservation techniques for personal use, such as drying, curing, smoking and stewing. The third area recreates a typical village, complete with a village green and pond, inn, school, cinema, municipal office, fire station, workshops, shops, dairy, mill, and even a church. Visitors can explore various buildings, including residential houses, workshops, and traditional shops, each filled with authentic artifacts that bring the past to life. The museum also features a railway station with three train cars, representing the region's transport heritage since the introduction of the Neusiedler Seebahn in 1897. The museum's historical inn offers visitors the chance to enjoy traditional meals. Special events, such as traditional craft demonstrations and seasonal festivals, are held throughout the year.
