In just 30 seconds, this modern elevator transports passengers 60 meters (197 feet) up through the Mönchsberg mountain, delivering them to a terrace overlooking the city's historic center.Originally constructed in 1890, the Mönchsberg Elevator was the vision of Karl Leitner, a private banker who sought to capitalize on the new technology of electricity. Today's elevator, operating within a tunnel since 1947, continues to provide easy access to the summit for locals and tourists alike. At the top, visitors can explore the Museum der Moderne Salzburg, indulge in fine dining at Restaurant M32, or simply wander along the numerous pathways that wind through the nature sanctuary.
